The Style Guide: The Frilly, Girly, Poplin Blouse
The Nordic fashion girlies are influencing us all.
Welcome to the first instalment of a new series I’m adding on the ‘sletter (and yes, that’s what I calling it from now on, get used to it.) The Style Guide is an area of both my blog and my substack where I’ll share tidbits from the fashion world of what’s trending, what’s new, and just what I’m personally liking at the moment. My blogging/vlogging journey on the internet started with fashion and beauty and it’d be a total shame to not include that part of my life in my writing.
This first episode is inspired from all my sleuthing around the internet lately (aka obsessively scrolling through every social media platform as well as Pinterest). I follow a pretty wide array of fashion girlies—from blokette e-girls, minimal scandi girlies, all the way to our luxury fashion mommas. But one style I’ve seen pop up across all the different fashion genres is the frilly, girly, poplin blouse.
These blouses usually have one or more of these prerequisites that deem them as cool and stylish in 2023/2024
big puffy sleeves
tie-front detail
peplum cut (who would’ve thought this would come back)
wrap around detail
frilly collar or seams
It’s easy to be toeing the line between milk maid and stylish Copenhagen girl with these tops but I think the perfect upper hip length along with what you pair on the bottom makes all the difference. Skip out on the matching long white flowy skirt. It’s fall, it’s time to retire that skirt. Instead, pair it with your favourite straight leg or baggy jeans, black or beige wide leg trousers, or something a little edgier. Even the the cool model-off-duty girls are styling these blouses so there’s really a ton of different wants you could style it and make it uniquely your own.
What are your thoughts on this colourful and girly trend? Are you going to give it a try?
I linked a few of my personal favourites over on the blog so if you’re on the hunt for one, go and check that out.
